It can occur on both the upper and lower eyelids. The eyelashes rub against the eyes, causing stinging and pain, and eye discharge increases, causing discomfort. Even if you pluck the eyelashes, they will grow back, so the condition will not be cured.
Inverted eyelashes on the upper eyelid are treated by creating a double eyelid. When creating a double eyelid, the eyelashes are fixed to the tarsal plate (cartilage of the eyelid) so that they face outward.
Ingrown eyelashes on the lower eyelid occur due to loosening of the lower eyelid retraction aponeurosis and orbicularis oculi muscle. Both are caused by aging.
