In the majority of cases, the cause is unclear. The general treatment is oral antihistamines.

Description of hives

It is a skin disease in which parts of the skin become clearly raised (wheals) all over the body, and after a while the wheals and itching disappear without a trace. Some people say that they don't get itchy, but their skin gets red.

If the rash appears within six weeks, it is called "acute hives," and if it occurs more than six weeks later, it is called "chronic hives."
